Tuesday, January 1, 2019, will be a holiday for all public sector and private-sector employees, giving workers a midweek break.

Work will resume on Wednesday, January 2, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation and the Federal Authority for Human Resources, responsible for the public sector, announced on Thursday.

Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation Nasser Al Hamli congratulated the country’s rulers and its people on the occasion.

President Sheikh Khalifa has declared that 2019 will be the Year of Tolerance, to follow on from the Year of Zayed that celebrated the UAE Founding Father’s values.

“Instilling values of tolerance carries on Sheikh Zayed’s legacy and teachings,” Sheikh Khalifa said.

The Abu Dhabi Government has yet to release its official list of public holidays for 2019, but the next day off after New Year’s Day that residents can look forward too will probably fall on April 3 for Isra Wal Miraj, though this is subject to the Moon sighting.
